About Akasha Yoga

Akasha Yoga began from the simple desire to share the love and benefits of yoga; making it accessible for everyone. Yoga will mean different things to different people and with nearly two decades of consistent practice, Rebecca understands that everybody and everyday is very unique.

Yoga is about contentment, non-violence and truth - to ourselves and others. It's not all about flexibility or co-ordination - it's about nurturing yourself and recognising the waivering limits your body has each day. Anyone can do yoga and her classes are taught with understanding and compassion, instilling respect for your body and calming the mind.

Classes can be tailor-made to suit individuals or groups for private tuition; or corporate packages to reduce the stress of busy employees.

About the Teacher

Rebecca was first introduced to yoga during rehabilitation for illness back in the late 80's. The seed was planted & remained within while travelling the world for a few years in the mid 90's. Upon returning to Australia in 1999 she was a student at the Glebe Yoga School, Sydney with Peter Thompson and Sue-ellen Kohler, who introduced her to Iyengar yoga.

Since 2001, Rebecca has been a student at Yoga Synergy, Newtown & Bondi. Synergy teaches dynamic Hatha, Ashtanga, Vinyasa based yoga, which is also shaped by Western medical science and physiotherapy. Rebecca has been fortunate to have Don Peers, Simon Borg-Olivier & Bianca Machliss as her teachers and continues her personal practice here to this day.

She also studies regularly at Jivamukti Yoga, Newtown, where she was was introduced to other styles of yoga including Jivamukti and Kundalini.

Rebecca undertook her Teacher Training (200hr) in 2009 at Samadhi Yoga, Newtown (now known as Jivamukti) which was facilitated by Katie Manitsas, Idit Tamir and Sue White.

In 2015 she completed a further 200hrs of Teacher Training with Bianca Machliss and Simon Borg-Olivier at Yoga Synergy and in 2016, went on to do a year long apprenticeship with them and is now part of the team of teachers at Yoga Synergy.

She continues to deepen her knowledge of yoga through regularly attending workshops by Clive Sheridan, Shandor Remete, Donna Farhi, Simon Borg-Olivier, and others on a variety of topics such as Yoga Anatomy & Physiology, Shadow Yoga, Subtle Anatomy, Sanskrit, Yoga History, Pranayama, Advaita Vedanta and much more.

She has a gentle approach and brings her love of yoga and desire to share the benefits with all to her classes.

She is also a mother to two darling boys and incorporates the philosophy and practices of yoga in to her parenting.
